As you already know, YouTube is a website that allows users to upload, view, rate, share, report, comment and subscribe to other users. There is a wide variety of content, such as video clips, TV show clips, music videos, documentary films, live streams and much, much more. Last but not least we must mention video blogging.
YouTube's has grown as a platform for self-expression for young people looking to have real conversations about topics that affect their lives, to share their experiences, to be able to talk fearlessly about their everyday lives and their own stories.
Did you know that there are also Deaf vloggers or YouTubers, and these people do a lot for Deaf activism and trying to show society that Deaf people can indeed do anything?
So I have put together my 9 favourite Deaf vloggers list that you really should get to know:
1. ASL STEW
With 16,960 subscribers on YouTube this deaf/hearing couple created ASL Stew to advocate for the importance of Deaf education, awareness and culture.
2. BSL ZONE
With 630 subscribers on YouTube but more than 16,000 followers on Facebook the BSL Zone produces TV programmes in BSL for Deaf people, made by Deaf people.
3. CHEYENNA CLEARBROOK
On her channel you can watch a mix of various things such as ASL lessons, deaf awareness and everything about deaf culture. With 10,325 subscribers on YouTube her dream is showing the world that deaf people can do anything, just like you.
4. DANNY SKITS VIDEO!
This little boy launched his YouTube channel in January 2017. Every month he uploads a new comedy video that includes parodies, joke, vlog and news. More than 33,000 people like his page on Facebook! He is just hilarious!
Jazzy is profoundly deaf in both ears. Her first language is British Sign Language, so when she upload the videos she signs with the subtitles on, so everybody can understand what she says. She already has 2,434 subscribers on YouTube.
6. JESSICA FLORES
She introduces herself as a comedienne, deaf advocator and YouTuber.
With more than 9,000 subscribers and almost 109,000 views on YouTube, she is creating awareness and bridging the gap between the Deaf, Hard of Hearing and hearing.
7. JESSICA KELLGREN-FOZARD
This beautiful British lady is a TV presenter and producer in the UK and via her personal channel on YouTube she shares "her sunny outlook on life, a love of Old Hollywood, general gayness and makes moves with BSL to cheesy songs- because you don't need to hear to know something it's amazing!"
8. SEEK THE WORLD
This American vlogger aims to encourage people from the Deaf community to travel the world and break down communication barriers independently.
If you love to travel and exploring the world through stunning photographs and jaw-dropping videos, then this is your channel. Join his more than 5,198 subscribers on YouTube and enjoy every video that this guy creates!
9. RIKKI POYNTER
Rikki is a 26-year-old American deaf vlogger who makes videos on lifestyle, deafness and spreading awareness of Deaf culture. She has been working on her new closed captioning campaign, #LIGHTSCAMERACAPTION, to try to get more YouTubers to closed caption their videos. She started on 2014 and has already 57,757 subscribers and more than 3,000,000 views on YouTube.
