From the number of people we come into contact with in our line of work, we have come to understand that it is very normal to feel fearful and insecure about Tinnitus.  The ringing in your ears or those strange noises you cannot always identify can be scary and distracting.  However, it is also important to be aware of what it is and also how you can support yourself.

This week is the Tinnitus Awareness Week. This annual event is intended to generate discussions about tinnitus and raise awareness of the work being carried out and support provided by the British Tinnitus Association as well as other services across the UK.

During the week you could read the official ‘Tinnitus Guidance for GPs’ document which provides the most up-to-date information on how people suffering with tinnitus can best be helped from diagnosis through to self-help management of the condition. Look out for that advice as the week progresses.

In addition, there is an online resource for people newly diagnosed with tinnitus www.takeontinnitus.co.uk. "Take on Tinnitus" is designed to give facts and ideas for things you can do to manage tinnitus and is an ideal resource for GPs to suggest to new tinnitus patients.

- DONATE -

If you would like to get involved you can support BTA (British Tinnitus Association) with a donation – they need to raise half a million pounds each year to continue their UK wide support.

Donations can be made HERE: www.justgiving.com/BTA
