The inaugural Greenwich Business Awards took place last Friday, the 19th of January at the Intercontinental O2 Hotel.
This event is an exciting new initiative to help and encourage business in the Royal Borough, and goodness what a venue they chose!
They received a staggering 125 nominations across the 10 categories and 45 businesses were shortlisted. As you already know Deaf Umbrella was the privilege of been shortlisted within two categories:
"Business Start Up Award" because of the launching of our "Employment Search Support for Deaf People Programme". The judge awards the business that had made an impact on the local market and can show growth, good business practice and great customer service.
and "Digital Leadership Award", an award that recognises Greenwich businesses using eCommerce to achieve growth through a great online customer experience. The judges looking at the site engagement, functionality, security and social media as well as evidence of the future digital vision for the organisation.
We were so honoured to have made the short list and felt very privileged to attend such an auspicious occasion. The event was presented by guest host Nick Hewer (whom we are sure you will remember from The Apprentice and also from Channel 4’s long running Countdown programme?). Nick was a great host - quite the professional! He certainly made us laugh, and it is clear he is a huge Lord Sugar fan!
The ceremony was exciting, vibrant and full of emotional moments for the winners. Although Deaf Umbrella was, in the end, not a winner on this occasion, we wanted to record and share with you our amazing experience.
