Get ready for an exciting event as Deptford Literature Festival returns for the third time, promising a celebration of stories and inclusivity.
Happening on Friday, March 15th, and Saturday, March 16th, 2024, this festival is all about welcoming everyone, including the deaf community. With the theme this year, ‘Unheard Histories, Untold Stories’, Deptford Literature Festival celebrates the diversity and creativity of Deptford and Lewisham through words, stories and performance.
Spread the Word, along with independent producer Tom MacAndrew, is behind this festival, supported by Arts Council England. It's a chance for the community to come together and enjoy the magic of literature.
A Festival That Welcomes Everyone
At Deptford Literature Festival, everyone is important. That's why they're making sure that all in-person events will have British Sign Language interpreters, so the deaf community can join in. And for those who can't make it in person, don't worry! Their online events will have captions, so everyone can enjoy the festival from anywhere.
Celebrating Deaf Culture and Creativity
Access and inclusivity are central to Deptford Literature Festival. Writers and readers of all ages, whether published or just interested, are encouraged to come along and take part. The winners of the 2024 Disabled Poets Prize will be announced during the festival. More info about Disabled Poets Prize HERE.
The festival continues its ongoing commitment to d/Deaf and disabled authors with the Disabled Writers Commissions and the CRIPtic x Spread the Word salon. All live festival events will be BSL interpreted and all online festival events will be captioned. 33 of 34 events are free, and free tickets for the only paid-for event will be available for Lewisham residents on low incomes.
